Real Madrid vs Cadiz: Preview, Prediction & Betting Tips

La Liga could be hosting title celebrations this weekend in a fixture that could have effects on both ends of the league. Title-chasing Real Madrid, host relegation-threatened Cadiz at the Santiago Bernabeu this weekend with both sides eager to gain three points for completely different reasons.

              Location: Santiago Bernabeu

              Date: 04/05/2024

              Kick-Off: 3:15 PM

The league leaders Real Madrid are potentially one win away from securing their 36th La Liga title in what has been a stellar campaign from the European giants. Real Madrid currently have 84 points after 33 games – 14 points clear of second place Girona. This means if Real Madrid were to win against Cadiz on Saturday, then Girona wouldn’t be able to mathematically catch the runaway league leaders.

The only team that could potentially stop Real Madrid from capturing their 36th league title is nearest rivals FC Barcelona. Barcelona are still yet to play Valencia as their game in hand, but they face an impossible task to wrestle the league title back into their favour. Barcelona are 14 points behind with six games to play, meaning if they fail to win against Valencia, Real Madrid can theoretically secure the title at home next Saturday.

Carlo Ancelotti’s side have only lost one league game all season and have been unbeaten since their 3-1 defeat in their inner-city derby against local rivals Atletico Madrid. Since that defeat, Los Blancos have been superb not only domestically but also on the European stage. Before this potential title-winning game against Cadiz, Real Madrid play the first leg of the UEFA Champions League semi-final against Bayern Munich.

Real Madrid secured their route into the final four, after dethroning last season’s champions Manchester City in aggregate victory, decided on penalties. Real Madrid having two opportunities for Silverware this season presents them a chance to secure a league and Champions League double. The last time they achieved this was in 2021/22 where they achieved European success by beating Liverpool in the final of the Champions League.

The hosts are amongst the top scorers in the league which has provided them with a great campaign thus far. Real Madrid have scored 71 goals so far this season, scoring an average of 2.18 goals per game. Los Blancos also boast the best defensive record in the league by a considerable margin.

The hosts have conceded 22 goals in the league this season, averaging 0.66 goals conceded per game.

Their opponents Cadiz are facing a huge struggle against the potential champions Real Madrid at the weekend. Cadiz will have to hope for a miracle result to keep themselves alive in the relegation battle down at the bottom of La Liga.

Cadiz are currently 18th in the league table after 33 games, having only accumulated 26 points from 33 games. Their current standing and points tally places Cadiz five points adrift from Celta Vigo who are 17th in the league.

The visitors can move two points behind Celta Vigo with a win but that would require Celta Vigo to lose against Villarreal. The main problem for Cadiz this season is the number of draws accumulated in this campaign.

Cadiz have drawn 14 games this season, which is just over a third of their games played this season. The away side has won only four of their 33 games played this season, losing the remaining 15. Cadiz also have the worst attacking record in the league with 23 goals scored.

In the most recent league meeting between the two sides, Real Madrid were the comfortable winners on the day. A brace from Rodrygo and a goal from Jude Bellingham were enough for Real Madrid to secure the win.

              TEAM NEWS

              Real Madrid Team News

David Alaba is ruled out with an injury for the foreseeable future. Daniel Carvajal will be back from his latest suspension.

              Cadiz Team News

Cadiz have four injury concerns. Jorge Mere, Luis Hernandez, Fede San Emeterio and Jose Mari are all side-lined with injury and will not be available.

              RECENT FORM

The recent history between the two teams suggests that any talks of an upset will not be happening anytime soon. Real Madrid has won three out of the last five meetings between the two teams in all competitions.

In the last league meeting at the Santiago Bernabeu, Cadiz performed admirably. Real Madrid beat Cadiz 2-1 thanks to goals from Toni Kroos and Eder Militao. Former Arsenal striker Lucas Perez scored for Cadiz in that game.

The two sides have only met each other ten times in league history, with Real Madrid winning on seven occasions, drawing twice, and losing just once. Cadiz's only recorded win in this fixture took place at Real Madrid in 2020.

The visitors for that game were the deserved winners having made the most of the 25% possession afforded to them. The only goal of the game came through Anthony Lozano in the 16th minute with an assist from former Manchester City striker Alvaro Negredo. If Real Madrid beat Cadiz, it will mark the second consecutive season where Real Madrid has done the league double over their opponents. In the last three games between the sides, Real Madrid has scored seven goals, Cadiz only scoring just once. Real Madrid has been wonderful at home this season in the league, having a near-perfect record in front of their home faithful. Los Blancos have played 16 games at home this season, having won 14 and only drawing twice.

Carlo Ancelotti has guided his team to five wins out of their last five home games in the league. Real Madrid have averaged 2.75 points per game this season, with them obtaining an 88% win rate at the Santiago Bernabeu this season.

Real Madrid has the best attacking record in the league, with the majority of their goals taking place at home. Los Blancos have averaged 2.5 goals per game this season and have only conceded 0.56 goals per game also.

The hosts have kept a clean sheet in 56% of their home games this season and have only failed to score in 6% of their matches this season. Jude Bellingham has been instrumental in his debut season for Real Madrid.

After his big summer arrival from Borussia Dortmund, the Birmingham-born midfielder has 21 goal contributions in the league this season. Bellingham averages 0.7 goals per game, whilst creating 1.6 key passes per game.

Simply, Cadiz has terrible form away from home this season which doesn’t bode well for the weekend. The away side have played 16 games on their travels this season and have failed to win a single game, only obtaining six draws in the process.

Cadiz has only kept a clean sheet in 6% of their away games this season and has conceded 1.69 goals per game this season when facing opposition away from home.

The worrying statistic for Cadiz is that they have failed to score in 56% of their away games this season. Their most recent win was a 1-0 win over Granada at home in which Robert Navarro scored for the hosts that game.
